Police clash with Kpone residents in chaotic demo

By Philip Otuo,

Residents of Kpone are vandalising properties in a demonstration that was meant to register their protest over the “indiscriminate selling of land by the elders of the town” and the worsening energy crisis.

The over 300 irate locals are demanding preferential treatment since the community houses the Sunon-Asogli Power Plant but continue to be hit by what has popularly become known as ‘dumsor’.

According to Starr News’ Osei Owusu Amankwaah, the police have called for reinforcement “to save the situation.”
He said the demonstrators have destroyed a structure under construction near the Kpone Cemetery and have gone ahead to torch wooden structures housing workers at the site.

“The demonstrators far outweigh the number of police officers here… economic activities have come to a standstill in this Ga dominated town,” Amankwaah reported.

Some of the indigenes who spoke with Starr News said they also need to preserve the lands to bury their loved ones.
