Dumsor caused about 13,000 job cuts - Employers Association

By Philip Otuo,
The Ghana Employers Associations has confirmed that close to 13,000 workers have been sacked in the last four months.

According to employers, the situation can be solely blamed on the ongoing power crisis and the resultant increase in the cost of production.
Industry is currently reeling from the power crisis after the sector was roped into the load-rationing schedule at the beginning of the year.

Speaking at the National Job summit, the 1st Vice President of the Ghana Employers Association, Dr.Yaw Adu Gyamfi, said the country is gradually losing the fight against unemployment.

“As of January to date, about 12,600 people have lost their jobs due to the energy deficit,” he disclosed saying that “ If the energy deficit continues to threaten the economy… investors cannot invest in Ghana.”

He added, “if we continue to be saddled with energy problems,” the cost of doing business in Ghana will increase and as such government cannot win the fight against unemployment.
