Nigerian presidential poll has been won by Muhammadu Buhari, in the country's first election victory by the opposition.

His opponent, Goodluck Jonathan, has conceded defeat and called Gen Buhari to congratulate him on his victory.

The PUNCH: The attempt of the PDP agent, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, to stop the announcement of the presidential election results seems to have been foiled as the results announcement has resumed with Ebonyi State taking the floor with Collation Officer, Prof. Michael Amalekwu, presenting. Orubebe had sought the stoppage of the release of the results, citing alleged partisanship against the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

Nigerian opposition contender Muhammadu Buhari built a lead of over 2.5 million votes with only six states uncounted on Monday, raising the prospect of a stunning ballot box victory for a man who first came to power three decades ago via a military coup.

The 72-year-old general who has campaigned as a born-again democrat intent on cleaning up the corrupt politics of Africa's most populous nation notched up 12.9 million votes, according to a tally collated by Reuters from 30 of Nigeria's 36 states.

Wiyaala invited to perform at Queen Elizabeth II's birthday party

Ghanaian Afropop musician, Noella Wiyaala, has been confirmed to perform at the 89th birthday party of Queen Elizabeth II on April 21, 2015 in the United Kingdom (UK).

This was announced on Thursday by the British High Commission through its official Twitter handle.
The British High Commission also expressed their delight in hosting the sensational musician at the upcoming event.


Wiyaala’s gig comes 5 years after popular Ghanaian group, Osibisa, also performed for the Queen live in The Front Room of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London on February 27, 2010.

Parliament approves £33m loan for military aircraft

Parliament has approved a £33,325,126-million loan facility with Airbus Defence and Space SAU to purchase a C-295 CASA aircraft and other related equipment for the Ghana Armed Forces.

The facility also has a $300 million component for Peace Keeping efforts for the Ghana Armed forces.

Earlier, the Minority Leader of Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu had asked the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament to ensure that due diligence was done on the loan agreement for the purchase of the aircraft.

According to him, similar loan agreements that were approved by Parliament have not benefitted the state.

He charged the speaker to get the committee to ensure the deal is in the interest of the state.

However, Starr News’ Kobby Mensah Gomez who was in Parliament today, Wednesday March 25, reports that all outstanding issues had been resolved prior to the approval of the loan by the House.
